I've loved everything about art since I was 12, drawing my own Yu-Gi-Oh cards and proudly showing them off to my teachers - but it was the first time seeing the Pixar movie "Up" that sealed my fate. I fell in love with animation right then and there, and have since dedicated myself to the craft.
As of 2025, I'm an experienced 2D Digital Artist with over 10 years working experience in the animation industry. I'm primarily skilled in Design, Concept Development and 2D Animation, and have worked on everything from simple loops to episodic studio productions.
I've tackled a bunch of personal projects and paid commissions over the years, here's a small sample.
2015
Cape Union Mart Group
While working on my diploma from The Animation School, I was hired to create storyboards for a Christmas day ad campaign, as well as a 3D render for a display window concept.
2016
The Animation School
I earned my diploma from The Animation School (ranked among the top 25 animation programs in the world!) after two full years of study. The course was comprehensive, including creative concept design, creative problem-solving, ideation, composition, color theory and illustration with the Adobe suite of tools.
2016
Internship
Sunrise Animation Studios
I completed a 2-month internship at Sunrise Animation Studios (a full-service production company), during which I worked on some small projects - character blend shapes, a custom quadruped walk cycle, and concept sketches, all done under the supervision of my peers. My work was well received, and Sunrise invited me back for a number of roles over the following years.
2017
CG Generalist
Sunrise Animation Studios
I was invited back in November 2016 as an Animation Intern, eventually graduating to CG Generalist within my team. I worked on a range of projects during this time.
2018
🏆 Hewn - Animated Short Film
Our final year project at The Animation School was a student film, for which I won two awards: Best Student Film at the South African Film and Television Awards, and Best Story - Team Category at the Cape Town International Animation Festival. The Cape Times covered it, and you can watch it on YouTube.
2018 » 2021
Concept Artist » Art Director
Sunrise Animation Studios
In February 2018 I was promoted to Concept Artist at Sunrise. Here, I worked with the marketing and production teams to create concept art for various projects (such as Team Jay and Jungle Beat), keeping the team aligned around overall project goals and visual consistency (a key focus for me). I used Photoshop to produce creative concept designs, improving efficiency by around 15%.
In September 2019, I worked an 18-month stint as an Art Director, where I was responsible for creating concept art for various production and episodic needs, guiding VFX, lighting and comp teams to ensure overall quality and visual consistency. I also oversaw approval for modelling, texturing and shading, to ensure that our output was aligned with the overall artistic direction.
2021 » 2022
Freelance illustration
I took an 8-month break from the grind to focus on developing my art style, taking on a range of private commissions during this time - sketches, freelance illustration, digital painting and frame-by-frame animations for customers all over the world.
2022 » 2025
Set Dressing & Finalling Artist
Sunrise Animation Studios
I rejoined Sunrise, this time in a more senior capacity. My day-to-day included mentoring and assisting my team with training, resolving issues and the pressures that come with fast-paced animation work. I ran the quality control function, improving overall workflow efficiency by 10% through careful review of every shot.
